"When Critical Systems Fail, I Find The Answer, and Won't Stop"

RF Interference Can Shut Down Critical Operations

When a ELT,PLB, or EPIRB activates on emergency frequencies- safety of life, your utility SCADA system goes offline, your public safety communications fail, your WIFI and RFID tag systems fail at a warehouse or manufacturing facility, or mysterious interference disrupts mission-critical systems—you need answers fast. Not guesses. Not theories. Real solutions from someone who has solved these problems for the FCC, FAA, government, military, major utilities, and critical infrastructure operators in real-time.

⚠️ Every minute of downtime costs money. Every communication failure puts lives at risk. I respond rapidly to all interference emergencies.

My Name is Dana Dulabone, President/CEO. I Have Four Decades of Solving "Impossible" Interference Problems

I've been hunting down RF interference since before most engineers entered the field. My track record includes work for some of the most demanding clients in America with a 98% success rate:

Some Examples of Proven Experience with Critical Infrastructure

  • Federal Communications Commission (FCC): Located Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) at private airport causing interference to aviation communications
  • Public Utilities: Resolved interference affecting water, gas, and electric utility SCADA systems, smart grid communications, and AMI networks
  • Southern California Gas Company: Senior RF Engineer for AMI network deployment—resolved several major interference issues affecting 6+ million smart meters
  • Major Cellular Carriers: 45+ years as Principal Senior RF Engineer for all first-tier carriers—expert in co-channel and harmonic interference
  • 13 Years Active Duty U.S. Air Force: Communications and RF systems experience in mission-critical military environments, miltary communications, and electronic warfare counter and counter counter measures.

When you call me, you're getting someone who has actually solved these problems in the real world—not someone reading from a textbook. I will not stop until I resolve your issue.

📡

Licensed Co-Channel Interference

Multiple transmitters operating on the same or adjacent frequencies causing system degradation or complete failure. I identify the culprit and engineer solutions.

Co-Channel authorized Licensed Users on Same Frequency

One user operating outside of license using OMNI antennas instead of directional antennas emissions wreaking havoc on other co-channel user. I located the source and implemented several mitigation strategies including finding another licensed frequency to re-channel all radios. 100 percent resolved.

🔌

Man-Made Noise

Electrical equipment, power lines, motors, lighting ballasts, and other devices generating broadband interference. I hunt down even the most elusive noise sources.

📶

Intermodulation Products

Multiple strong signals combining in non-linear devices to create interference at unexpected frequencies. Complex problem requiring expert analysis.

🛡️

Desensitization & Overload

Receivers rendered useless by nearby strong transmitters. I analyze the system and design filtering, shielding, or relocation solutions.

🌐

SCADA & Telemetry Interference

Critical infrastructure monitoring and control systems losing connectivity. I understand both the RF and the protocols—essential for effective resolution.

Real Problems. Real Solutions.

🛩️ FCC Emergency Locator Transmitter Hunt

The Problem: FAA Aviation communications systems in a major metropolitan area were hearing unknown ELT transmission since no aircraft were unaccounted for. The FAA/FCC needed to immediatley locate ELT that was transmitting on the emergency 121.5 MHz frequency.
My Solution: Using direction-finding equipment and specialized search techniques, I systematically narrowed down the geographic area and located a ELT in a hangar at a private airport that was removed from the plane for battery changeout but accidently activated ELT. Had pilot turn off ELT. Notified the FCC and FAA of source and that the incident was closed. Time-critical work completed under possible safety of life conditions.

💧 Water Utility SCADA System Failure

The Problem: A municipal water district's remote monitoring stations began losing connectivity intermittently, preventing operators from monitoring reservoir levels and pump station status. The disruption put water delivery at risk.
My Solution: On-site spectrum analysis revealed a new high-power transmitter creating co-channel interference on the SCADA frequency. I worked with the FCC and the interfering party to resolve frequency coordination issues and implemented bandpass filtering at affected remote sites. System reliability restored to 99.9%+.

⚡ Electric Utility Smart Meter Interference

The Problem: During AMI smart meter deployment, certain neighborhoods experienced complete communication failure. Thousands of meters couldn't report usage data, requiring costly manual reads and preventing remote disconnect capability.
My Solution: Using high-end direction-finding equipment, isolated area where interference was transmiting from. Using various field devices, positively identifed the source. A local golf course was using Rainbird radio watering system, co-channel with AMI network. Rainbird system was not reconfigfured for narrowband operation. Worked with golf course to get radios changed to narrowband. No more impact to AMI meters.

📻 Public Safety Communications Degradation

The Problem: A city's police and fire radio system began experiencing reduced coverage and intermittent dead zones, potentially compromising emergency response.
My Solution: Drive testing and spectrum analysis identified harmonic interference from a commercial radio system operating on a frequency three times lower than the public safety band. The commercial system's aging transmitter was generating strong third harmonic energy. I worked with the station owner to replace the defective equipment and implement proper harmonic filtering. Full public safety system performance restored.

My Proven Interference Resolution Process

Advanced Tools for Complex Problems

Interference hunting requires more than just a spectrum analyzer. I bring a complete arsenal of professional-grade test equipment and cutting-edge analytical tools:

🤖 AI-Powered Signal Intelligence

I employ artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms that I've personally trained for automatic signal classification and identification. My AI-assisted tools can:

  • Identify modulation types and protocols automatically
  • Detect intermittent interference that manual monitoring would miss
  • Classify thousands of signals rapidly to find the interference source
  • Recognize patterns in complex interference scenarios
  • Predict interference behavior based on temporal and environmental factors

This isn't theoretical—I've trained these systems on real-world data from decades of fieldwork.
